Housing. Community. Independence.
Finding Homes Where Neurodiverse Adults Belong
Next Steps Foundation is an organization dedicated to seeking, developing and providing self-directed housing communities across New York — purpose-built for neurodiverse adults, designed around independence, and supported by the people who care about them.
Our Mission
A New Model for Neurodiverse Housing in New York
Neurodiverse adults face a serious shortage of appropriate housing options — with limited affordable units, long waiting lists, and few communities designed with their needs in mind. Next Steps Foundation will change that. We will develop self-directed housing communities in partnership with New York builders and developers, creating places where neurodiverse individuals can live with independence, dignity, and the support they choose around them.
Develop self-directed housing options through new construction partnerships with New York developers and builders.
Establish lasting relationships with housing developers committed to accessible, inclusive design for neurodiverse residents.
Build supportive communities around each housing initiative — connecting residents, families, and neighbors.
Provide on-site living support services that empower neurodiverse tenants to thrive independently.
Connect families with resources, guidance, and community so no one navigates this journey alone.
"Every neurodiverse adult deserves a home that is truly theirs — not a placement, not a program, but a place to live, grow, and belong."
— Next Steps Foundation
How We Build
From Vision to Community
We don't just advocate for housing — we develop it. Our model brings together developers, donors, families, and support providers to create communities that work.
Developer Partnerships
We identify and partner with New York housing developers and builders who share our commitment to accessible, purpose-built communities for neurodiverse adults.
New and Existing Construction
We work alongside developers and landlords ensuring every unit is designed for self-direction, accessibility, and the specific needs of neurodiverse residents.
Community Integration
Each housing development is surrounded by a living support network — connecting residents to services, neighbors, families, and the broader community.
The Model
Self-Directed. Community-Centered. Purpose-Built.
Our housing communities are designed around one principle: neurodiverse adults should have real control over where and how they live. That means purpose-built units, on-site living support, and a surrounding community that fosters connection — not isolation.
New Construction
Purpose-built units designed from the ground up for accessibility, independence, and neurodiverse-specific needs.
Developer Partnerships
Long-term relationships with New York builders and developers committed to inclusive housing at scale.
Supportive Communities
Each development includes community programming, shared spaces, and on-site support staff.
Self-Direction
Residents choose their support, their routines, and their neighbors — real autonomy, not managed placement.
Family Resources
Dedicated support for families navigating housing options, transition planning, and long-term care.
Living Support Services
On-site staff trained to support neurodiverse tenants with daily living, community integration, and personal goals.
