Jacquie's Jive - May 1997

Hot Tip -- by Jacquie Stone

"I want to find a job or career that's right for me. How do I begin?"

Knowing more about yourself is an important part of getting the right job. Often we find it difficult to know how to find out more about ourselves. Two profiles that I have found helpful are the Myers-Briggs Inventory and the Strong Inventory. The Myers-Briggs helps individuals look at how they gather energy, how they process information and how that can impact their lives and their work.

The Strong profile looks at interests and how these interests match in the world of work. It looks at how you learn, take risks, lead others and what work styles you are most comfortable with. The profile also looks at how well your likes and dislikes match people who are happily working in a specified occupation.

This kind of information can help an individual get a clearer perspective on job areas they would be best suited to. It helps take some of the guessing out of the process of career planning. Down at YEC we are happy to provide these services to our clients.
