Company Bio

We are a Thrift Store in a department store appearance. Our business model is a unique blend of selling used goods and receiving product via non-profit agencies. We are 50 years old and have given 1 billion dollars US to charity partners.

With 200 locations and growing, Value Village offers the ultimate treasure hunt: a place where people from all backgrounds experience a predictably unpredictable shopping adventure.

There's always something new to discover at Value Village, and between the thousands of items arriving daily from our nonprofit partners to our seasonal promotions and special sales, no two visits are ever the same.

Does your organization have other locations besides Calgary?

There are 3 locations in Calgary, one in Mindapore, another at 58th Avenue Chinook and one at 32nd Avenue NE.

How many people does your organization employ?

We employ about 9,000 plus worldwide.

Do you offer both part time and full time positions?

Yes.

What is your hiring process?

We have a behavioral based hiring process, which means that we ask you to describe a situation in which you have demonstrated a specific skill.

There are two interviewers.

We try to have quick recruitment.

Do I need a resume to apply to your company or can I apply online?

You can apply on-line for management level positions.

Apply in person at store location for non-management level positions.

What do you look for in employees?

We look for hardworking, ethical employees that are willing to grow.

What type of schooling do I need?

The level of education required depends on the position applied for, a grade 10 education is important.

Do I have to be 18 to work for your company?

For most of the positions you do need to be 18, but there are opportunities for individuals under 18.

How much will I get paid?

$7.59/hr, plus bonuses. Can change depending on position.

What kind of skills do I need?

The biggest skill is a willingness to learn, as we will train new employees.

Do you have summer opportunities available?

Limited summer opportunities are available.




Entry Level Positions


Racker/Roller

Duties Include:

  • Racking Off: Remove priced merchandise off the speed rails, place on rolling racks
  • Rolling Racks: Pull racks full of newly priced merchandise onto the sales floor
  • Ragging Out: Pull clothes off the sales floor that have completed the markdown cycle
  • Stapling & Tagging: Staple color-coded tags to garments
  • Preparing Tags: Ore-mark, code, and affix price tags for the production department
  • Tallying Items: Accurately count items priced and keep a tally sheet


Recycler and Truck Unloader

Duties Include:

  • Maintaining Production Room: Move merchandice to workstations. Provide supplies for departments. Empty trash barrels. Prepare the production room for the following day.
  • Unloading Trucks: Assist in daily unloading of merchandise and load it onto receiving carts.
  • Maintaining Cleanliness: Maintain total cleanliness throughout the outside and inside of the store.
  • Operating Baler: Collect and load items into the baler. Unload bales from the machine, and move them to storage.
  • Transferring Merchandise: Move and transfer merchandise from trucks and trailers to outbound containers or receiving areas. Keep an accurate account of all merchandise that has been transferred. May operate forklift, electric pallet jack or other equipment.
  • Recycling: Ensure no sellable items or recyclables are thrown away.


Sorter/Assistant Sorter

Duties Include:

  • Sorting: Pull boxes and bags off carts, open them and remove the items. Examine items to determine if they are sellable and sort as appropriate.
  • Hanging Clothing: Place garments on designated hangers and on the appropriate speedrail.
  • Rolling Racks/Carts: Pull/push racks or carts of newly priced merchandise onto the sales floor.
  • Stapling & Tagging: Staple color-coded tags to the garments


Pricer

Duties Include:

  • Inspecting Garments: Inspect garments for condition, quality, and sellability.
  • Determining Price: Assign a price point to a garment using defined standards and write the price and size onto color-coded tags.
  • Maintaining Department: Maintain department by straightening and returning items to their appropriate place, dust, organize, and keep merchandise fresh.
  • Racking Off: Remove priced merchandise off the speed rails and place onto the rolling racks by order of category, size and color.
  • Stapling and Tagging: Staple color-coded tags to garments.
  • Tallying Items: Accurately count items priced and keep a tally sheet.


Floater

Duties Include:

  • Sorting: Pull boxes and bags off carts, open them and remove the items. Examine items to determine if they are sellable and sort as appropriate.
  • Hanging Clothing: Place garment on designated hangers and on the appropriate speedrail.
  • Determining Price: Assign a price point to a garment using defined standards and write the price and size onto color-coded tags.
  • Rolling Racks: Pull racks full of newly priced merchandise onto the sales floor and put them in the proper place.
  • Ragging Out: Pull clothes off the sales floor that have completed the markdown cycle.
  • Stapling and Tagging: Staple color-coded tags to garments.
  • Tallying items: Accurately count items priced and keep a tally sheet.


Salesclerk

Duties Include:

  • Floor Work: Organize, clean and merchandise store.
  • Check Stand: Provide accurate, fast, and efficient check out service.
  • Fitting Rooms: Help customers as they use the fitting rooms, keep track of merchandise, clean rooms, and return merchandise to sales floor.
  • Making Announcements: Make P.A. announcements throughout the day.
  • Answering Telephones: Answer the telephone in a courteous manner within three rings, provide answers or direct the person to a supervisor.
  • Maintaining Check Stand: Stock register with supplies. Keep the register area neat and organized. Return merchandise to sales floor.
