How to be supportive
Hello Listener. Hopefully if you are reading this you have been asked to lend an ear to an individual who is presently engaged in the career searching process. Your contribution will be significant and we would like to make some suggestions that will add to that significance. Below are some thoughts on how to be a good listener. Some are more relevant than others so choose those that you think will aid you in being a "great" listener.
Listen, don't lead. Career seekers have the ability to work out answers if given the space and the support to do so.
Be their loudest supporter. Career exploration and job seeking can be frustrating; encouragement will go a long way.
Take the time to recall the experiences you had as a young adult and try to remember what you would have found helpful at that time.
Validate the choices and information that your friend is sharing with you.
